PERSONAL WORK AND BIO

THROUGH THE GRINDER

Through the Grinder is a game I created for the Itch.io Weekly Game Jam with the theme "Cafe." I designed a unique tower defense game where players take on the role of a busy barista. My goal was to challenge the traditional passive nature of tower-defense games, which I achieved by giving the player a character to control. They must constantly move to place towers (lattes with straws) and reload their weapon (refill their coffee pot). With 24 hours of hard work, I met the goals I set out.

WRITING AS WYATT PAULK

I always knew I wanted to work in video games in some fashion. While I was still in school, I was given the opportunity to work as a games journalist. This was a great fit, as I make a large effort to stay up-to-date with new announcements. Eventually, I was trusted to write opinion pieces and reviews for games. Specifically while writing a review one day, I knew I wanted to be more involved in the process of development. To this day, I look back fondly at my time doing games journalism. Below are libraries of articles I wrote for two websites: GamerProfessionals and VGCultureHQ.

MORE ABOUT ME

I believe in getting to know more about people than just their professional lives. In an effort to reflect this, here's a bit more about me:

  • To no one's surprise, I'm an avid gamer. My favorite game of all time is Destiny, I've put thousands of hours into it. I'm also especially fond of Dark Souls, as seen with my Return Home button. Currently, I play quite a bit of Valorant, and I've always got a single-player game whenever my friends are too busy.

  • Weightlifting is my way of staying fit. I make an effort to go to the gym everyday, but usually video games get in the way of that.

  • Recently, I've been trying to learn more about creating terrariums. I love the idea of creating a self-sustaining ecosystem within something as small as a jar.

  • I've been making a greater effort to read more books and watch more films. I've spent so much of my life playing games, now I'm behind on everything else.
